Installation & Maintenance
Wooden Flooring FAQs
-
Acclimatize the Wood: Store the wood in the installation area for a few days to adjust to humidity and temperature.
-
Prepare the Subfloor: Ensure the subfloor is clean, flat, and dry. Use a moisture barrier for concrete subfloors if needed.
-
Lay the Underlayment: Use underlayment for cushioning, sound insulation, and moisture protection as necessary.
-
Plan the Layout: Typically, lay the flooring perpendicular to the floor joists for stability.
-
Start Installation: Begin along the longest exterior wall, leaving a 1/2 inch expansion gap.
-
Install the First Row: Place the first board with the tongue side facing the wall, using spacers to maintain the gap.
-
Continue Installation: Use a flooring nailer to secure each board, staggering end joints at least 6 inches between rows.
-
Complete the Installation: Cut the last row to fit, maintaining the expansion gap at the wall.
-
Install Trim and Moulding: Cover the expansion gap with baseboards or quarter round.
-
Finish the Floor: Sand, stain, and seal according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
